Mo-Sys VP Pro 4.27 will be released concurrently with Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4.27.

FREMONT, CA: Mo-Sys Engineering, a global pioneer in virtual production and image robotics, is happy to announce the release of Mo-Sys VP Pro 4.27, which includes a slew of new features and is compatible with Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4.27. Mo-Sys used Unreal Engine 4.27's preview time to accomplish a multi-camera production with Amazon. Additionally, the update was subjected to a rigorous, multi-camera technical rehearsal in preparation for a vast Netflix production.

Mo-Sys has been working on improving the feature set and capabilities of VP Pro, which runs within the Unreal Engine Editor, for some time and will release the new version concurrently with Epic Games' Unreal 4.27. The upgrade to VP Pro 4.27 adds four critical new features: an enhanced compositor, NearTime® rendering, an online lens distortion library, and remote-control functionality.

Michael Geissler, CEO Mo-Sys Engineering Ltd. says, “Virtual production is seeing a real surge, but it does bring challenges. Typically, directors and cinematographers must make continuous calculations to make the real and virtual elements match in post-production. This is often a costly and repetitive process. Mo-Sys is a pioneer in providing a platform for graphics rendering as well as camera and lens tracking to create higher quality virtual productions. With VP Pro 4.27 we have made it even easier to produce seamless, high-end productions and we are also unique in making our 4.27 update available on the same day as Epic Games launch Unreal Engine 4.27.”

Mo-Sys has redesigned its internal composting system from the ground up, redefining how compositing is handled across all modes. VP Pro's latest update now includes more significant support for high-end graphics capabilities such as refraction, as well as a 15 percent performance boost. Additional features include the following:

Support for video reflection and refraction in computer-generated objects

Support for complex ray-tracing features has been enhanced.

Support for fur and grooming

Advanced controls for computer-generated shadows falling across a video

Additionally, the revised VP Pro 4.27 expands the Beta program for the new NearTime® rendering methodology, allowing more users to participate. NearTime is an automated, cloud-based re-rendering solution that significantly improves and homogenizes visual quality and enables higher resolutions (UHD, 4K, and 8K) without sacrificing performance. A high-quality, high-resolution optimized, cloud-based NearTime render begins " without sacrificing performance or visual quality when the shot is finished." NearTime® enables one to turn up all the dials for unconstrained real-time quality at a fraction of post-production cost.

Mo-Sys is also launching its online lens distortion library as part of the 4.27 update, which gives customers access to various calibration tools and enables them to tune their lenses on-set in a highly cost-effective manner.

The VP Remote iPad interface, which is new for VP Pro 4.27, is entirely customizable and enables many engines and camera chains from a single control panel. The Beta version was tested during Netflix's technical rehearsal.
